But their true friendship was born much later, in 1974, when Brayer actively worked to have him elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts. This was achieved on January 22, 1975.

Yves Brayer and Bernard Buffet share far more than their passion for painting: the same deep love of art, whether ancient or Flemish, Romantic or modern. They admire Gros, Delacroix, Géricault, Goya and Francis Gruber — a close friend of Brayer. Both are fierce defenders of Figuration, stubbornly rejecting Abstraction. They are also two tireless workers: one paints by day, the other prefers the night.

A selection of works from 1947 to 1998 offers an insight into the great variety of Bernard Buffet’s work. This exhibition, An Artists’ Friendship, pays tribute to this rare relationship, marked by deep friendship and mutual admiration. To celebrate it, works by Yves Brayer echo those of Bernard Buffet, in a sensitive and silent dialogue, just as Bernard Buffet’s works revisit the permanent collections.

To visit from May 7 to November 9, 2025 at the Musée Yves Brayer in Les Baux-de-Provence.

For all information: www.yvesbrayer.com

Virtual Tour of the Museum

Museum Presentation VIDEO 3’40”

OPENING HOURS:
From April to September: every day from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM and from 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM
From October to March: from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM, closed on Tuesdays
Annual closure: January, February and early March
Reopening on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at 1:00 PM

ADMISSION:
Adults: €8.00 per person
Groups of 10 and more: €4.00 per person
Free: 17 and under (accompanied by an adult)
Half-price on presentation of the PASS BAUX-DE-PROVENCE (Carrières de Lumières + Château des Baux): €4 per person

For any further information
Tel: 04 90 54 36 99 or 04 90 97 78 53

For any documentation about the exhibition
Tel: 06 21 23 06 92 or 06 23 16 47 75
Email: olivier@yvesbrayer.com

At the Musée Yves Brayer in Les Baux-de-ProvenceTemporary exhibitionBERNARD BUFFET – An Artists’ Friendship May 7 > November 9, 2026 It was in 1947 that their paths first crossed, when they served on the jury of the École des Beaux-Arts, and then in 1948 at the Salon d’Automne, where Bernard Buffet was admitted as a […]

[45
46
post-1744","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-temporary-exhibition","tag-46
["GET
